The purpose of the book of Proverbs was to give wisdom and understanding. Practical application of knowledge to everyday living.
The purpose of the writing was to make the reader wise. The opposite of a wise son is a foolish son. So in essence the goal of the book is to have us cast away all foolishness and embrace wisdom. The book bombards us with practical spiritual truths to help us in this endeavor.
